We kinda knew it was only going to be a matter of time before Andrej Pejic, the 19-year-old Serbian Australian model who might just be the prettiest boy who ever lived, landed a major ad campaign. And who else butMarc Jacobs could handle Pejic’s ethereal androgyny?
WWD reports the designer has cast Pejic for his Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2011 campaign. Pejic will appear alongside modelGinta Lapina — a Latvian girl who has the same blonde locks, pouty lips and high cheekbones that Pejic is so famous for, which we’re guessing will result in some serious gender confusion on the part of people who won’t have heard of Pejic by the time the ads appear. Juergen Teller shot the ads in Marrakech, and we can’t wait to see them in magazines and on billboards early next year.
But Jacobs isn’t the only designer who’s been seduced by Pejic’s androgyny. Jean Paul Gaultier also featured the model in his spring campaign withKarolina Kurkova, another blonde, pouty lipped, high cheekboned Eastern European model. Are we smelling a trend here? Yes, yes we are.
Because with fans as big as Jacobs and Gaultier, we can almost assure that Pejic is going to be getting a lot more work — and a lot more visibility — in the months to come. And that’s something we’re pretty excited about.
